Children's Dentistry

We love to treat children like the treasures they are.  That's because here, we love to have fun with our young patient's and make their experience in our office a positive and encouraging time, we encourage them to play in the "Kid's-Only" Corner where kids are able to be kids.

We believe in treating your child in the same way that we would want our own children to be treated, with compassion and gentle care.  Dr. Luke and his team love to laugh and joke with kids about the latest video game they've been playing, their favorite superhero or about how Dr. Luke has the same Hello Kitty lunchbox that they have...or something like that, you get the idea.

OUR TEAM BELIEVES STRONGLY THAT THERE ARE SOME KEY INGREDIENTS TO A CHILD'S HEALTHY MOUTH AND TEETH:

#1 - Education

#2 - Prevention

#3 - Excellent and Gentle Care

Mouth pain and tooth aches are something that many children suffer from and we have solutions and would love to share them with you!  In our office, children and parents alike are encouraged to ask questions, learn about what we're doing and why, in fact, one of the things that sets our office apart is in our approach to child visits and in the way that Dr. Luke encourages parents to play an active role in their child's care.

We will provide you and your child with the tools to take care of YOUR child and THEIR mouth.  We often hear that "they're just baby teeth" or "their teeth are just soft," and while there is some truth to both of those statements, the part that get's Dr. Luke and his team excited is that there is room for learning right there and we're here to help teach and support you as your child grows.

The First Visit

At Eagle Point Family Dentistry, we are excited to welcome you and your child to the practice and are certain it will be a pleasant experience.  The first visit will consist of a thorough review of your child’s dental and health information and a comprehensive dental examination along with a discussion on proper diet, nutrition and good oral hygiene habits.  Usually, a professional dental cleaning, remineralization therapy and any necessary radiographs are also performed during this visit.  The information gathered will allow Dr. Barsalou to prepare a treatment plan and recommend the best options for your child’s dental care.

You can help us make the first visit enjoyable and positive.  It is best if you refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear or tell “scary” stories about going to the dentist.  Words such as “needle”, “shot”, “pull”, “drill” or “hurt” may cause preventable anxiety and make the first dental visit more difficult for your child.  At Eagle Point Family Dentistry, we strive to make your child’s first dental visit a positive and exciting adventure. Therefore, we use words that are pleasant and non-frightening to your child while explaining what we are doing in “kid-friendly” terms.

We encourage you to stay with your child during the initial examination.  Our goals include: providing the highest quality of care for your child, developing a positive relationship with you and your child, discussing proper diet, nutrition and oral hygiene as well as answering all questions you may have regarding your child and their care.

When should I bring my child in for their First Visit?

The American Academy of Pediatricians, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists and Dr. Luke Barsalou recommend that a child’s first dental visit occur around his/her first birthday or within six months of the eruption of his/her first tooth.  This first visit will orient the child to the new experience of a dental office.

Also, the parents and/or caregivers will receive information on proper oral hygiene habits, nutrition and diet guidelines.  Just as it is important for a child to have Well-Child Check-ups with your pediatrician, it is important for a child to establish a Dental Home-office.  Early education and check-ups can lead to a lifetime of good oral hygiene.  We will partner with parents to keep children cavity-free.
