Luke Barsalou, DMD
Eagle Point Family Dentistry
Dr. Luke Barsalou is a graduate of OHSU School of Dentistry here in the great state of Oregon. Prior to OHSU, Dr. Luke completed his undergraduate training and degree in Biology with an emphasis on Christian ministry and education at George Fox University in Newberg, OR and that is where he fell in love with Oregon and dentistry.
From the start of his training and continuing into now, Dr. Luke has always loved and focused on honing his skills in areas of cosmetic dental work, surgery, root canals, dentures and children's dentistry. Dr. Luke believes in a prevention-first model because it works and it can change lives. Your own teeth are your best teeth. Dental decay and gum disease are two things that can largely be prevented and Dr. Luke wants to be a part of the solution and any innovations that help achieve true prevention.
Dr. Luke has always attended as much continuing education as possible, much of it focused on the skill required to provide beautiful dentistry and stay updated with the latest technologies. Despite pursuing the highest level of craftsmanship and skill that he can, Dr. Luke never loses sight of the big picture that beautiful dentistry is performed on real people with real lives and needs.
On the personal side, Dr. Luke has been blessed by a beautiful and amazing wife, with whom he enjoys life, and 4 wonderful children that keep him young and somehow also simultaneously give him gray hairs. He considers being a husband and dad two of life's greatest joys.
The Fun Stuff
Aliases/Monikers/Things it's OK to call me:
Dr. Luke, Dr. B, Luke, Dr. Barsalou, Dr. Fun, Dr. Who, Dr. Dre, Dr. Barsa-luke...all are equally great.
Why I love dentistry:
I love dentistry for really one core reason. I love people. I love talking to them, I love getting to know them, I love taking care of them, I love spending time with them. To me, dentistry is a place where I get to meet and know a lot of people in my community, take care of them and build relationships that can last as long or longer than the excellent dentistry that we provide. In addition to the people aspect of dentistry, you may have heard me say that if I didn't do dentistry, I would need to do something where I get to work with my hands, because I love to create and build and make things that last. I also love to learn and feel like being a dentist means perpetually learning the latest and greatest so I can provide that to the people I come to care for here in our town. So in short, dentistry is a great fit for me and I feel grateful to God to be able to do something daily that I really enjoy.
Things I enjoy:
Being outdoors in the beautifully created Rogue Valley, reading, teaching AWANA to local 3rd-5th graders, board games and cards with my kids, making stuff from DIY ideas, bird hunting, having families over for dinner, cooking with my wonderful wife, going on dates with my wife (alright - anything with my wife is good), playing guitar (ish), exercising, teaching, taking CE for dentistry, making furniture, fishing the Rogue, bowhunting, drinking coffee, sleeping in, there really are just a LOT of things I enjoy. I enjoy that every day is a day the Lord has made, and for that I'm really glad.
Things my kids say about me:
- "So when you go to work, you basically just tell people to brush more?...Is that it?" - Caleb
- "Dad, you forgot to help me brush my teeth this morning." - Hudson
- "Daddy, what are you DOING? That is NOT how you play My Little Pony!" - Haddie
- "How come mom can run farther than you?" - Caleb
- "Daddy, what you said?" - Lily
